The three fantasy cuts we offer
Portuguese cut. A classic multi-facet cut with roughly 161 facets arranged in two extra tiers on the crown and pavilion. The result is exceptional scintillation — a dense, glittering sparkle that a 57-facet round brilliant cannot match. It performs best on round and oval stones from 6 mm up, where the extra facets have room to work.
Fireworks cut. Facets radiate outward from the center like a burst, so light returns in long streaks rather than uniform pinpoints. On color-change alexandrite the effect is especially striking: the green and purple tones flash in alternating rays.
Starlines cut. A star-pattern facet layout, most often on marquise and elongated shapes, that draws the eye along the length of the stone and gives it a lined, radiant look.
Lab-grown alexandrite and lab diamond
Every center stone in this collection is lab-grown. Our lab-grown alexandrite is true chrysoberyl with the same green-to-purple color change as mined alexandrite, at 8.5 on the Mohs scale — hard enough for daily wear. Our lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to mined diamonds (Mohs 10). Because lab-grown rough is clean and available in larger sizes, we can cut these demanding facet patterns without the compromises that mined material would force.

Is a Portuguese cut the same as a round brilliant?
No. A round brilliant has 57–58 facets. A Portuguese cut has about 161, with additional rows on both the crown and pavilion. The extra facets produce more scintillation and a "crushed ice" glitter, though the stone must be slightly deeper, so a Portuguese cut of a given millimeter size weighs a bit more than a brilliant of the same diameter.
Which stone shows the fantasy cut best — alexandrite or diamond?
Both, for different reasons. Lab-grown alexandrite shows the facet pattern in color: the cut splits its green and purple tones into visible rays. Lab diamond shows it in brightness: the higher refractive index turns the extra facets into intense white sparkle.
Are fantasy cut rings good for engagement rings?
Yes. The stones are solid faceted crystal with no carving or thin edges, so they are as durable as any standard-cut stone of the same material. All settings are made to order in solid gold, and most designs are available as a ring or as a set with a matching band.
Can I customize a fantasy cut ring?
